For over a century, Appleby College has been challenging its students to become leaders of character and major contributors to their local, national and global communities. Appleby’s focus is on educating the whole student by combining a rigorous academic programme with extensive experiential and extracurricular opportunities that extend the learning experience beyond the classroom.
Appleby offers an extraordinary educational experience: global and experiential educational opportunities that include outdoor education trips to its northern campus in Temagami; class sizes with an average 16:1 student-to-teacher ratio; the AP Capstone Diploma, an innovative programme providing independent research and collaborative teamwork skills increasingly valued by colleges and universities; athletics and arts programming; a Grade 12 boarding programme that gives students a head start on their post-secondary journey.

Committed to classroom innovation with its finger on the pulse of ever-changing pedagogical and technological practices, Appleby is a designated Microsoft Showcase School, employing technologies designed to both empower and enrich each student’s educational experience. In 2016 Appleby opened a state-of-the-art 1,700-square-foot design lab which allows students hands-on ideas of tomorrow.

But Appleby’s singularity is best found in its students’ awareness and understanding of their role as global citizens, with participation in a global learning experience as a core requirement of the Appleby College Diploma. The school is a member of Round Square, “a worldwide association of more than 180 schools whose students share a strong commitment to academic excellence, personal development, and responsibility.” Its Global and Experiential Education programme is second to none, fostering relationships and understanding of community importance, indigenous issues, and the Appleby College Diploma with Distinction in Global Leadership, “an action-oriented programme for developing global citizenship. It is the first truly integrated global education programme offered by a North American boarding school.”
