Georgian Renovations: An ‘Elevation’ of Style and Taste

Stunning contrasts and elegant design – and décor choices that make these come to life: these elements make 2 Thomas Reid Road, in North Markham, Ontario, a sight to behold, not to mention a place of uncompromised luxury in which to live.
The team behind this 6,000 square-foot, 5-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom home’s renovation comprises Gene Maida, Georgian Renovations’ president, and his coterie of award-winning architects, interior designers and decorators. Their stunning remodelling of some of the area’s most sought-after residences have put them on the map as “the place to go” for homeowners seeking unparalleled charm and vision in the realization of their dreams.
Set in Markham’s prestigious Victoria Square neighbourhood and surrounded by mature trees, the residence at 2 Thomas Reid Road needed to live up to its classy surroundings. Georgian Renovations exceeded this challenge. “Tempered grandeur” is the term Maida uses to describe the home. While these words’ combined use may seem surprising at first, a deeper look at the residence reveals they are à propos. Let’s step inside…
Georgian Takes Ceilings to New Heights
The Entrance Hall:

A long, airy and well-lit entrance hall – flanked on each side by floor-to-ceiling white wood panelling, and boasting a floor laid with high-end grey-veined white porcelain – is made even more grand by the addition of a chandelier suspended from a high coffered ceiling. This hallway emanates lightness, class and elegance. Yet perhaps its most captivating feature is a commanding, dark, custom-designed oak door at the hall’s end. The use of stark contrasts in this space captures guests’ attention immediately upon their arrival at the home. It also belies the artistry that continues throughout the residence.
The Kitchen:

The entrance hall’s magnificence is superseded only by that of the combined kitchen and living area. Immediately upon entering this space, the visitor’s attention is drawn to a spectacular north-facing wall made up entirely of floor-to-ceiling windows, and interrupted only by centrally placed French glass doors. Here, residents and guests can gaze out over a backyard space that will soon contain the “must-have” accoutrements of a high-end lifestyle: a pool, cabana, hot tub and water features, as well as an outdoor kitchen, fire table and seating area under a gazebo.
The Living Room:

Georgian Renovations has decorated the living room space in a way that makes the most of this outdoor view. In the living area, plush grey couches encircle a gas fireplace. Family and guests alike, while chatting over appetizers and a glass of wine or with a coffee and book in hand, for example, can lounge beside the fire while also taking in this impressive backyard.

Maida notes that Georgian takes a “holistic approach” to the “elevation of clients’ style.” It makes sense, then, that the light airiness seen elsewhere in the home is continued in the kitchen, with its white and grey-veined Caesar stone-topped counters and island, and white and grey backsplash. This elegance does not come, however, at the expense of a well-appointed kitchen. According to Maida, “There’s more technology in this kitchen than in a car:” it has been engineered for a busy cook, boasting high-end appliances, recessed valance cabinet lighting, magic corner organization units, cutlery drawers, recycling units, a kitchen sink with four cutting boards, and more.

In addition to the abovementioned spaces, bathrooms, staircases and a completed recreation room space that has been fitted as a private cinema – all speak to calibre of design and ingenuity one can expect of a Georgian Renovations project. A winding staircase takes visitors up through multiple landings, each adorned with large windows that look out over mature trees, while allowing natural light into the home. The ensuite bathroom is particularly magnificent. Fitted with a free-standing soaker tub, and best described as airy and spacious, it allows the bather to luxuriate while enjoying an outdoor view of the trees’ rustling leaves.

All spaces in 2 Thomas Reid Road share one thing in common: there is total attention to detail in the use of trim, wood panelling, archways and coffered ceilings – while each room, upon completion, has been fitted with the perfect décor to enhance the area. Indeed, Georgian Renovations is known for being a “merger of design practices,” as well as a “onestop shop,” when it comes to creating lavish spaces. As Maida continues, “In addition to designing and renovating your home, we take care of the drapery, textures, furniture. We do a complete transformation.” This has been immensely reassuring for clients who often have an idea of what they want in their dream home, but aren’t sure where to start. Beginning with a consultation with Georgian Renovations’ design team, and through weekly work-in-progress reports, clients such as 2 Thomas Reid Road’s owners feel that working with Maida’s team is like “seeing our dream house come to life before our eyes.”
