Katie Zeppieri is a great model for what she wants to inspire in the girls and women who listen to her podcast, attend her empowerment events, subscribe to her newsletter or listen to her on NEWSTALK 1010: a social entrepreneur who saw a real need in the market and built a successful career by serving it.
While still a high schooler, Katie began to speak out on subjects that she cared about, leading activism campaigns and speaking at elementary schools on subjects like bullying and diversity. By her late teens, Katie had already become a Top 20 Under 20 finalist, won a TD Trust Community Leader Scholarship ($75,000), and was recognized as a YMCA “Young Woman of Distinction.”

In 2013 she launched the first GIRL TALK Day, Canada’s largest annual girl empowerment event that by its final iteration, in June 2019, attracted over 1,100 girls ages 11-18 from across Southern Ontario, and led to the creation of over 100 school chapters in four different countries.
Recently, Katie launched a new evolution of the brand: GIRL TALK Speakers Bureau. From venture capitalists to broadcast journalists to CEOs, GIRL TALK manages an impressive roster of female speakers and connects them with opportunities to speak on stages worldwide.

Books

“She Rises” is an illustrated poetry book that takes readers on a mental health journey from darkness to light. Separated into three parts: “She Falls”, “She Rises” and “She Perseveres”, the book speaks to some of the challenges that girls and women experience including: anxiety, depression, eating disorders and low self-esteem, while seeking to inspire the reader to rise above and stay strong even in the most difficult of circumstances.

“Girl Talk” is an inspiring tool for every girl who has ever wanted to change the world and a great resource for parents and educators as discussion questions are listed at the end of every chapter.
Girls today face many unique challenges that dissuade them from reaching their full potential. Our image-obsessed society tells girls that they are not skinny enough, pretty enough, or talented enough to change the world. It’s no wonder girls are struggling with their self-esteem and self-worth. It’s time to make a shift.
What the world needs more than ever are changemakers—young people who are committed to making the world a better place. We need girls who are less worried about thigh gaps and more worried about the difference they are making in the lives of others. GIRL TALK speaks to girls growing up in a society filled with pressures and encourages them to see that they have the power to make the world a better place each and every day, right where they are.
