Open a window. You can hear the fairways draining and the greens drying.
A winter of waiting has left many golfers out of practice and out of shape. Ace Sports Clinic is the preeminent sports treatment centre in Southern Ontario, having built an impressive reputation for working with both professionals and amateurs, weekend warriors and ambitious novices. As golf season rolls around, we checked in with co-owner Luke Fuller on how golfers can use Ace’s expertise to excel through all 18.
Ace’s holistic and all-encompassing approach to well-being and fitness is the perfect partner for golf enthusiasts. As Fuller points out, “Golf is a great social game and can be played throughout our lives to help us remain active and healthy.” But golf’s universality does not necessarily promote healthy practices. “Golf injuries tend to happen due to the repetitive movements of the sport and rotational forces impacting the body. The biggest challenge with golfers is getting them to understand that specific strengthening and flexibility should be a regular part of their preparation.”
Fuller adds, “A long golf career should include regular maintenance treatments like Osteopathy and Chiropractic for joint alignment; massage and physiotherapy for soft tissue and muscle suppleness and strengthening. We lose muscle mass and strength as we age, so it is highly recommended that a supervised, personalized strengthening program for golf is overseen by one of our exercise specialists.”
